In the sea of Galilee found a mysterious construction
A giant stone structure discovered at the bottom of the sea of Galilee in Israel (the sea of Galilee and lake Kinneret).
The mysterious object is of conical form, is a pile of unhewn basalt cobbles and boulders and weighs approximately 60 tons. Its height reaches almost 10 metres, a diameter of about 70 meters. For comparison: the outer circle of Stonehenge is halved; the highest of its stones below 10 meters.
Apparently, this is a huge tour, that is just a pile of stones. Such structures (much smaller scale, of course) are all over the world and sometimes mark the graves.
For the first time this structure was observed in the summer of 2003 during echolocating shooting South-Western part of the lake. Then it started divers. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that the boulders sometimes reaching a meter in length and that they piled up in complete disarray. The surface of the stones bears no tool marks or threads. In addition, there are no traces of walls or other markers delineating the boundaries of buildings.
At the same time, there is no doubt that this is the work of human hands, and created, most likely, on land and only later find themselves at the bottom of the lake when raised the water level, writes “Kompyulenta”.
Before talking about the purpose and time of the tour, neobhodimosti underwater excavations and find at least some artifacts. In the meantime, Yitzhak Paz, of the University of Ben-Gurion (Israel) proposed that the structure originated over 4 thousand years ago, because in the third Millennium BC in places were popular megaliths. Among them can be called Khirbet-Beachu, located 30 kilometres North-East of sunken structures. It consists of three concentric stone rings, the largest of which is 56 meters in diameter.
It should be noted that the megaliths of the III Millennium BC as a rule, was located near fortified settlements. Indeed, a mysterious structure is located about a mile from the ancient settlement of Khirbet-Kerak (Beth-Yerah). In that era it was one of the largest cities in the County and perhaps in all of Israel: he held 30 acres and could accommodate up to 5 thousand inhabitants. Judging by the cobbled streets and high fortifications, it’s centralized power.
For the construction of a giant tour too is necessary to organize large numbers of people and careful planning, and, of course, developed economy.
The study is published in the International Journal of Nautical Archaeology.

The structure is located about 500 meters from the southwestern shore of the sea of Galilee. Nearby are several ancient settlements.
